June 12 @ 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm
Citizen-led renovation initiatives aim to engage citizens and communities to become the leaders in tackling the renovation challenges and enable upscaling of renovation action. Our primary goal in this policy session is to explore the potential of citizen led renovation in empowering citizens and communities to accelerate energy renovations as a key component in achieving the EU’s climate and energy targets.
Following the recent recast of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) the EU has set ambitious renovation targets for residential buildings and the Support Service for Citizen-Led Renovation explores ways to support a successful implementation. It will provide guidance for policy makers and build a network of on-the-ground initiatives which provide lessons learned and best practices on which enabling national regulation can be built on.
Local authorities play a crucial role in enabling and supporting citizen-led renovation actions. Local authorities have the capacity to promote and support citizen-led renovation actions, ensuring their effective implementation and facilitating their expansion through citizens’ involvement. During our session, based upon the experiences of the Life IP BE REEL project, we will present specific activities and their outcomes as examples of how local authorities can contribute to and champion citizen-led renovation actions.
The session will feature a contribution from coalition meber REScoop’s Felix Kriedemann.
