The EU’s climate goals depend on rapid decarbonisation in buildings and transport, but progress is slow. The new Emissions Trading System (ETS-2) sets a carbon price on fuels, driving decarbonization while boosting energy independence. However, rising costs may disproportionately affect vulnerable households and SMEs. The Social Climate Fund (SCF) aims to ease this burden by redistributing ETS-2 revenues.
With Social Climate Plans due by June 2025, Member States must act fast. This event will discuss how to use ETS-2 revenues for a fair transition, balancing support, investment, and administrative challenges.
