The recent non-paper signed by 15 Member States recognises the major potential for climate, just transition and energy security and calls on the next Commission to make the clean heating and cooling transition, including explicit reference to geothermal and district heating, an EU priority for the next term.
As you might know, the European Parliament adopted an own-initiative report (INI) on geothermal energy earlier this year acknowledging the large potential for the heating and cooling transition. The Committee of the Regions published a similar call soon after.
The upcoming Hungarian Presidency will also put geothermal energy on the agenda to foster discussions on creating a level playing field with other renewables.
Building on this strong momentum while starting into the next 5-year EU mandate, the Cool Heating Coalition will bring together distinguished experts from industry, civil society and politics to discuss how geothermal district heating will contribute to the clean H&C transition, share best practices and engage with the audience in a webinar on 10 July.
