The 4th European EnerGreenDeal Conference 2024 took place in December 2024. The parallel session on “Decarbonising buildings: measures and technologies for a successful transition” brought together experts and industry leaders to discuss innovative strategies for achieving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions in the building sector. Coalition director Delia Villagrasa, along with steering committee member Oliver Rapf, executive director at BPIE, shared the stage with Nina Neumann, team leader in the Energy Efficiency Unit at DG ENER. The session, moderated by journalist Dave Keating, explored the latest initiatives, regulatory frameworks, and technological advancements shaping the future of building decarbonisation.
A key challenge highlighted was consumers’ uncertainty about the wide array of renovation options and energy-efficient technologies. To address this, the panel proposed solutions such as informational campaigns, free energy advice, and workshops led by independent advisors to guide consumers in making informed decisions.
The discussion also emphasised the importance of robust investment in the construction sector to drive change. Panellists recommended the introduction of minimum energy performance standards, financial incentives to encourage energy-efficient renovations, and the establishment of a long-term regulatory planning horizon to create stability and attract investment.
The session underscored the critical role of collaboration among policymakers, industry leaders, and consumers in achieving a decarbonised building sector, paving the way for a sustainable and energy-efficient future.
